IWMI’s Requirements for students

  • At least 85% score in their studies and strong interest for doing research with IWMI
  • Readiness to work in the selected fields in their home countries (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan)
  • Strong communication skills in English

IWMI’s Research Area of Interest

IWMI is interested on application of Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems for Assessing and Mapping Salinity in the irrigated areas.

Procedures of MSc Research Scholarship Application for TEMPUS students

IWMI will open call for MSc Research Scholarship for TIMI students enrolled under TEMPUS project on 1st of May, 2005. Interested students of TEMPUS project will apply their CV’s and Proposed Research Program.

By 1st of July, 2005 IWMI will select best students from the applicants. Then supervisor of student from TEMPUS and IWMI will help selected students fine-tune their research programs. After approval of MSc research program and budget by IWMI’s “Bright Spots” project leader and TEMPUS project manager IWMI will release financing of the MSc research of selected students.

Coordination of field work of MSc students

The project coordinator of ADB RETA 9 “Bright Spots” project, research supervisor from IWMI and TEMPUS project will coordinate selected students field work. Special ToR for conducting field work will be prepared for each selected MSc student. The students will submit all crude field data to their supervisor from IWMI and “Bright spots” project leader.

Expected outputs

The milestone output of each MSc student will be their Diploma Thesis, which they should finish according to the deadlines of TEMPUS project. Each of two students will present at IMWI-HQ results of their research in one Friday seminars. The second output will be internationally refereed output, such as IWMI Research Report or Journal paper.

Financial settlement

The special contract between IWMI, TEMPUS project and with each selected student will be signed. In this agreement will be indicated that if student will not defend MSc thesis by indicated deadline TEMPUS project will be liable for returning amount paid for student to IWMI.
